COVID-19 Emergency Funding approved by Galway City Council under Phase 2: Helping Our Communities and Individuals Maintain Wellbeing

Galway City Council has approved grants totalling €38,265 under the COVID-19 Emergency Fund (Phase 2) to support a wide range of local community and voluntary groups and organisations operating throughout Galway City.

As part of Phase 2 of Galway City Community Call initiative, which focusses on helping our communities and individuals maintain wellbeing as we move through the COVID-19 pandemic, 24 projects have been approved funding, providing financial assistance to a number and range of local projects supporting the Wellbeing campaign’s three focus areas – Stay Connected, Stay Active and Looking after your Mental Health. In addition, Galway City Council in partnership with the Galway City COVID-19 Community Response Forum have developed a useful resource to highlight the range of services, projects and initiatives that are happening across the City with a focus on Wellbeing, this can be viewed on the ‘Stay at Home’ resources link on www.galwaycity.ie/stay-at-home-resources

The Department of Rural and Community Development provided this funding to Galway City Council to administer locally in order to provide this much needed funding, targeted appropriately throughout the City. The Community Call, a major initiative that links local and national Government with the community and voluntary sectors has been operating in Galway City since 30th March 2020. The purpose of the Community Call is to coordinate community activity, direct community assistance to where it is needed, and harness the volunteering energy of Galway City. The Community Call Helpline, which forms part of this is here for anyone you may know who needs:

· Food, household items, fuel, medications collected or delivered

· Someone to talk to or other social supports

· Meals delivery

· Response to Garda related concerns

· Help with other medical or health needs
