The Dyke Road approach to the Headford Road/ Dyke Road/ St. Brendan’s Avenue Junction has been removed, as part of the Galway City Council Mobility Team Covid-19 interventions in the City Centre.
It is part of the GCCMT Implementation Plan - which looks at public space, and the requirement for social distancing. These changes will provide a shorter wait time at the junction for pedestrians, and increased capacity for vehicles.
Details of the changes:
• The Dyke Road approach will be restricted using temporary bollards and signage.
• All southbound traffic on the Dyke Road will be prohibited from travelling straight towards the Headford Road/ Dyke Road/ St. Brendan’s Avenue Junction, and will turn left at the Dyke Road car park towards the Headford Road/ St. Bridget’s Place junction.
• These changes will result in the removal of a signal stage at the Headford Road/ Dyke Road/ St. Brendan’s Avenue Junction and corresponding reduction in the cycle time at the junction.
• From the same date (21st September) , the right turn at the Courthouse coming from the Cathedral is restricted to Bus Only.
These changes will also support interventions on Eglinton Street and Francis Street.
