‘Turning Galway into an Exhibition’

‘Turning Galway into an Exhibition’

- Mayor of Galway City compliments young people on their imagination and creativity in showcasing their talent within the City.

Galway City Council’s Creative Team is celebrating young people’s creativity with support from Youth Work Ireland Galway by showcasing young people’s photography and artwork.  This is a project funded through Galway City Council's Creative Ireland funding as part of the Irish Government’s campaign ‘Getting Through Covid-19 Together’. The Creative Ireland Programme is a five year culture based initiative that emphasises the importance of human creativity for individual and national wellbeing.

Following on from our first exhibition by the wonderful Dr. Chaosheng Zhang , which can still be seen at new locations across the Eyre Square Shopping Centre, for the month of December we are now showcasing an exhibition by the young people of Galway. In partnership with Youth Work Ireland Galway we did a call out to ask the young people of Galway City to submit their artwork. We have been overwhelmed by the response.

Cllr. Mike Cubbard, Mayor of Galway City said: “This was a great opportunity for young people to get involved, we have all seen just how much the arts supports people’s health and wellbeing especially during these last few months.  This project put a strong emphasis on creativity to spark an interest and encourage the inner creative in young people to try something new or fulfil ambitions!  As Mayor of Galway City I’m proud of our young population and our creative reputation as a city”

The exhibition is available to view at the Eyre Square Shopping Centre throughout the month of December and definitely worth a visit.
