COVID-19 Emergency Funding approved for Galway City


Galway City Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) have this week approved grants totalling €58,029 to a wide range of local groups and organisations in Galway City under the COVID-19 Emergency Fund (2nd Round), providing additional funding to a range of local community or voluntary groups and organisations across Galway City to help them in their response to COVID-19.

The funding approved by Galway City LCDC will enable the adaptation of a range of local services and operations to fit the new COVID-19 reality in addition to enabling local community or voluntary groups and organisations to become more involved in the ‘Keep Well’ campaign. This is the 2nd round of the COVID-19 Emergency Funding for Galway City, providing immediate support to local groups and organisations involved in the ongoing delivery of the COVID-19 community response efforts.

In total 36 groups have been approved funding for a variety projects that will assist local community and voluntary groups to adapt their local services and operations in order to continue to provide critical social supports; to enable and support online activities and to allow for changes to premises and spaces to provide for social distancing. In addition a number of groups were approved funding to embrace the ‘Keep Well’ campaign, enabling their participation in the campaign which focusses on the themes of staying connected, switching off and being creative and minding your mood.

The funding approved this week is complementary to the range of other supports and funding provided by Galway City LCDC and Galway City Council to the community and voluntary sector to support vulnerable people in our communities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

This funding was welcomed by Galway City LCDC in recognition of the important role played by the community and voluntary sector across the City, who are in turn assisting significant numbers of vulnerable people get through COVID-19.

The COVID-19 Emergency Fund is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and administered by Galway City LCDC.
