Galway City Council is divided into three Local Administrative Areas, each represented by a Local Area Committee. These committees provide a forum for elected members and Council officials to focus on matters affecting their local communities and neighbourhoods.

Meetings are held every two months.

The committees are established under the provisions of the Local Government Act 2001, which enables local authorities to establish Area Committees for specific parts of their administrative area.
