City Council Acknowledges Frustration of Motorists: ‘Grace Period’ for Public to Get Familiar with Alternative Payment Options

Galway City Council wishes to acknowledge the frustration of Motorists in the City today, with Pay and Display machines unexpectedly out of order. It was an unexpected inconvenience for both motorists and Galway City Council, and we understand the annoyance motorists experienced.

As previously advertised, card payments on Pay and Display machines are not available from 7 January 2025 – but it was not foreseen that cash payments on the Pay and Display machines would not be available today.

Galway City Council acknowledges the difficulties this may have caused those parking in the city today, due to circumstances that were out of our control.

Acknowledging that people need to get familiar with these new payment options while the Pay and Display machines are out of order, Galway City Council will have a ‘grace period’ where parking fines for non-payment of parking on-street and in Galway City Council carparks will not be enforced until the end of next week (Sunday 19 January).

From Monday 20 January 2025, customers must ensure they are familiar with range of alternative payment options, which were introduced in early December 2024:

  • Payzone Retail Outlets – pay with cash or card in retail outlets in Galway City (view the list online);
  • Pay by App – download the free ‘Galway City Parking’ app from your usual app store, and pay by card;
  • Pay Online – pay by card on www.GalwayCityParking.ie;
  • Pay by Phone – pay by card on 0818 300 161.

Customer Support is available on 0818 300 161 or at Parking@Payzone.ie for any users having issues with payment or the app.

Further information and FAQs can be found at www.GalwayCityParking.ie

Galway City Council continues to monitor the situation and to work towards a solution to get the machines operational and accepting cash again.

Apologies to all those inconvenienced today, and for the frustration caused by this unexpected situation.
