Cllr Mike Cubbard Elected as 71st Mayor of the City of Galway

Councillor Mike Cubbard was elected as Mayor of the City of Galway at the Galway City Council AGM in City Hall on Friday 20 June 2024, becoming the 71st person to hold the honour of the First Citizen of Galway City. 

Councillor Alan Cheevers was elected Deputy Mayor. 

 

The AGM is the second in the five-year term of the council, following local elections in 2024. 

 

Councillor Mike Cubbard succeeds Cllr Peter Keane as the Mayor, with Cllr Alan Cheevers succeeding Cllr Níall McNelis as Deputy Mayor. 

Previous Mayors of the City of Galway include current Uachtarán na hÉireann, Michael D. Higgins; Minister of State, Hildegarde Naughton TD, and Catherine Connolly TD.
