Galway City Council is delighted to report a fantastic public turnout at the Affordable Housing Information Evening held on Thursday, 7th August 2025, at the Clybaun Hotel, Knocknacarra. The event ran from 4pm to 8pm and welcomed a wide range of attendees eager to learn more about homeownership opportunities in Galway City.
The evening featured expert insights from O’Donnellan & Joyce Auctioneers, who provided valuable guidance on the home-buying process. Attendees also had the opportunity to speak directly with representatives from Galway City Council’s Affordable Housing team and leading banking institutions, who were on hand to offer mortgage advice and answer questions.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the upcoming An Tobar development in Rahoon, proudly delivered by Cairn Homes. Scheduled for completion in Q1 2026, the development will offer 14 new homes—comprising of four 2-bedroom and ten 3-bedroom houses—available for purchase under the Affordable Housing Act 2021 and associated regulations.
Applications for these homes will open at 12 noon on Monday, 8th September 2025, and close at 12 noon on Monday, 29th September 2025. Interested applicants can register and apply via the online portal at www.galwaycity.ie at 12 noon on Monday, 8th September 2025. Applications will be prioritised based on the date and time of submission, in accordance with Galway City Council’s Scheme of Priorities.
