A new parking management system has been installed at City Hall, College Road, and will become operational on 24 April 2025. The new system is being introduced as availability of parking for customers and visitors at City Hall can be problematic, with the public car park usually full from 9:00am.
The lack of available spaces has led to delays and inconvenience for customers and visitors, and occasionally problematic parking on roadways and footpaths around City Hall. Many spaces are occupied by vehicles where the driver is not a City Council customer or visitor.
From 24 April 2025, barrier parking controls will be introduced to deter parking by vehicles that are not visiting City Hall, so that the spaces are available to customers and visitors.
Parking will remain free for customers and visitors. A fee of €2 per hour, or part thereof, will apply to any vehicles staying longer than 30 minutes, and not visiting City Hall.
Parking will be available for the public at evenings and weekends, and will be subject to the same parking charges.
Visitors and Customers of City Hall, particularly those with children or mobility needs, often struggle to access parking, and have complained to our Customer Services team about this issue. At times when the parking is full, drivers park inappropriately or unsafely – in loading bays, on double yellow lines, on footpaths and on crossings – which can obstruct visitors and deliveries, as well as damaging green areas and planters.
This new parking management system will help to ensure that customers and visitors can access City Hall without delays.
Galway City Council will assist our customers and visitors to ensure a smooth transition to the new arrangements.
