What is Participatory Budget: Have Your Say €25k
Participatory Budgeting is a democratic process that allows local communities to decide how a portion of the public budget is spent.
In 2026 Galway City Council will deliver a project or initiative, proposed by the community at a cost of €25,000. Proposals will be invited from communities and residents in the City Centre Ward, giving them an opportunity to propose projects that are of direct benefit to them. These proposals will be shortlisted and put to a public vote from which the winning proposal will be decided.
How does it work?
The online submission link will open on 29th September 2025 at 9.00 am and the closing date for receipt of submissions is 17th October 2025 at 4.00 pm. To submit a proposal please click https://submit.link/46f
Proposals will be assessed by the Centre Ward Area Councillors and Council staff based on community benefit and potential for completion. The shortlisted proposals will then go to a public vote to decide the winner. Voting will take place online in November. Galway City Council will announce the winning project in early 2026.
What type of projects are applicable?
Proposals should focus on projects or initiatives that aim to improve local infrastructure and community well-being including public spaces, recreational areas and community activities. Actions for consideration include but are not limited to climate action; biodiversity; local improvement, environmental enhancement; youth development; community safety; inclusion; accessibility and age friendly infrastructure.
