Galway City Council has received €127,500 in Built Heritage Investment Scheme funding to support 11 conservation projects in Galway City.
Together with match funding from owners and occupiers, the 2026 BHIS will leverage over half a million Euro of investment in Galway City's built heritage.
Funding is provided by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage / National Built Heritage Service and administered by Galway City Council Architectural Conservation.
The BHIS aims to support owners and occupiers of historic buildings through grant supported investment to maintain and conserve these important structures.
Central to the BHIS is the promotion of best conservation practice, and the support of skilled, experienced conservation professionals, craft workers, and tradespeople through employment.
Brendan Dunne, Senior Executive Planner / Galway City Council: “This investment in eleven projects is vital for supporting consolidation and repair works to ensure the survival of historic structures, including Protected Structures and structures in Galway City’s Architectural Conservation Areas, I’d like to acknowledge the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage for their investment in the city, and to building owners for collaborating to protect the valuable built heritage of Galway.”
Michael Scott, Architectural Conservation Officer / Galway City Council: “As custodians of our built heritage, this support makes a real difference for owners and occupiers of historic buildings, whilst supporting key traditional buildings skills. Continued investment, and the use of best conservation practice ensures that Galway’s rich built heritage remains a living part of the city.”
