Members of the public are invited to attend the third Public Engagement Day (PED) for the Galway City Flood Relief Scheme.
The event will be held over two days at two locations to help enable as many members of the public to attend as possible.
Overview of the project
The objective of Coirib go Cósta is to assess, design and deliver a viable, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable flood relief scheme for Galway city. Coirib go Cósta, while primarily focused on addressing the sustainable and effective management of flood risk, shall ensure that the design of any measures, in particular structural measures, recognise the distinctive character of Galway city. All works will include creative landscape and architectural solutions, which can, in addition to addressing flood risk management, enhance the urban landscape and public realm amenity whilst integrating with other advancing projects.
Previous Consultation
This consultation follows on from 2 previous non statutory public engagement days held for the project.
- PCD1 - The first PCD was used to introduce the scheme to the public and to gather any available information that could help inform the scheme development.
- PCD2 – The second PCD was used to present to the public all viable options available for the scheme and to gather feedback regarding these.

Members of the project team (Galway City Council, the Office of Public Works and Arup (appointed specialist consultants)) will be on hand during both days to discuss the scheme and respond to queries and detail the information.
What if I can’t attend?
All information will be available on the project website’s www.CoiribGoCosta.ie home page via a dedicated link.
What happens afterwards?
All feedback received in response to the Public Engagement Day will be examined by the project team and will be considered to inform, develop and confirm the ‘Preferred Option’.
