Invitation to Local Groups: Become a Community Support Centre

BCNC

Galway City Council is inviting community organisations, sports clubs, and volunteer groups to register their interest in becoming Community Support Centres (CSCs). These centres provide basic welfare supports—such as phone charging, Wi‑Fi, refreshments, and hygiene facilities—during severe weather events or prolonged power outages.

CSCs are volunteer‑run and are only activated when a community has been without power for 72 hours, or where disruption is expected to be prolonged.

An online national Expression of Interest (EOI) form will be issued in due course. Until then, groups wishing to be considered for inclusion on the CSC register are asked to contact their local Urban and Community Development Officer (UCDO).

Premises should have:

  • An active volunteer group
  • A large room with tables and chairs
  • Heating, accessible toilets, and washroom facilities
  • A kitchen or kitchenette
  • Wi‑Fi and device‑charging capacity
  • A private room and basic first aid supplies

Access to a generator or changeover switch is desirable but not essential.
