Planning Application Lodged for the Renmore Play Area

A Part 8 planning application has been submitted for the Renmore Play Area – Tír na bPáistí Óga - a new inclusive play area and recreational space on Renmore Avenue, Galway. The proposed development aims to create a welcoming, accessible and vibrant space where children of all ages and abilities can play, explore and connect. The design includes a range of exciting features including:
- Inclusive Play: Accessible play equipment, dedicated toddler areas, nature-based play, sensory features and quieter spaces.
- Greener Spaces: Native planting, wildflower meadows and biodiversity enhancements.
- Safer Connections: A new off-road pedestrian and cycle route, improved crossings and better connections to surrounding facilities.
- Community Amenities: Seating, picnic areas, bicycle parking and public lighting.
The proposed design was informed by extensive public consultation undertaken between January 2025 and April 2026, involving approximately 930 attendees at public engagement events and over 1,300 survey responses.
Feedback demonstrated strong support for improved play facilities, with 89% of survey respondents supporting a new playground and 61% identifying Renmore Avenue as their preferred location.
This valuable feedback has played an important role in shaping the proposed design and layout.

This proposal is part of the Renmore Neighbourhood Park Project, and was brought to the planning phase by MKO, LUC, PUNCH Engineers, Quinn Architects, Moloney Fox, ACSU, Arbor Care Professional Consulting Tree Service, and TC Estimating Services on behalf of Galway City Council.
