Public Advisory - Adverse Weather from Thursday 22/10/2026
A period of adverse weather is expected from Thursday, 22 October through the long weekend and into next week.
Important Information
- Storm Austen is expected to bring high levels of rainfall overnight on Thursday into Friday morning. The weather is expected to remain unsettled over the Bank Holiday weekend and into next week, with Storm Boelo forecast to bring further adverse weather conditions and the potential for additional impacts through at least Monday.
- People should monitor weather updates and heed all warnings issued by Met Éireann (https://www.met.ie/)
- Due to recent heavy rain along with forecasted wind and rain with Storm Austen, the ground is completely saturated. Trees are still in full leaf and are highly vulnerable to strong winds, putting them at an elevated risk of falling, particularly in woodland areas.
- Be aware of potential impacts:
- Difficult travelling conditions - Allow extra time for essential travel
- Localised flooding possible, particularly in coastal areas
- Outdoor events impacted
- Debris, loose objects displaced
- Some fallen trees, branches
- Conditions can change quickly during severe weather.
Galway City Council continues to monitor the situation closely and will issue further updates and advice as required.
