Applications for the 2025 Historic Thatched Buildings grant are now open. The closing date for applications is the 17th of January 2025.

Galway City is participating in the ‘Safe and Sound’ campaign to promote positive social behaviour and respect while enjoying the night time economy. The campaign is a call to action for visitors and residents to enjoy all Galway City has to offer after 6pm from theatre, sports, pubs, cafes, cinema and so on – while being considerate of their surroundings and each other.

Galway City Council has achieved five prestigious Green Flag Awards, at the announcement on 8 November by An Taisce Environmental Education Unit. The Green Flag Awards acknowledge Ireland’s best public parks and gardens, with Quincentennial Park in Salthill achieving the award for the fifth time, Children’s Millennium Park retaining the honour for a sixth year in a row and O’Sullivan Park in Mervue achieving the award for the third time. Both Kennedy Park (Eyre Square) and Terryland Forest Park joined the honour roll this year, with the award of the Green Flag for the first time.

A Book of Condolences in memory of Billy Lawless, Freeman of Galway City, has opened in City Hall, Galway City Council, today (Monday 11 November 2024). His Worship, the Mayor of the City of Galway, Cllr Peter Keane opened the book, which will be available to the public for the entry of messages of sympathy.
