Galway City Council has been named by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of three top performing local authorities for environmental enforcement in the Local Authority Environmental Enforcement Performance Report 2025.
The Irish Language Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) of Galway City Council, in collaboration with local community stakeholders, has launched a landmark initiative to identify, map and celebrate the city’s historic urban Gaeltacht areas. ‘An Ghaeltacht’ signs have been installed at the boundaries of eight Gaeltacht townlands within Galway City boundaries – highlighting Irish-speaking regions where the government officially recognises Gaeilge as the primary vernacular language.
Road Closures will be in place from 9.30am – 4.00pm, Monday to Friday, from Tuesday April 7. Bus services will be diverted away from Castlepark Road during these times.
