An initiative of the Galway City Council Climate Action Team, Galway Climate Festival aims to do something a little different and engage the arts and cultural strengths of Galway to create positive climate actions within the city. Opening on September 12, the festival will deliver 3 full days of events in a variety of venues in the city centre from 13-15 September.

Today, 165 special visitors from Weimar, Germany, were officially welcomed to Galway at a tree planting ceremony in Terryland Forest Park. Weimar is a former European Capital of Culture and this group endeavours to visit the former Capitals of Culture to plant a Tree of Friendship, something it’s done for the past 25 years. Of course, the 2020 visit didn’t work out at the time because of the pandemic. But they didn't forget Galway all the same!

Galway City Council wishes to advise that Roscam Playground will be closed to all users from 9 September 2024 to facilitate the installation of new equipment in the playground

Galway City Council is seeking input from the public on the Local Authority Biodiversity Action Plan 2025-2030.

A high-level delegation including representatives of Galway Chamber, University of Galway, Atlantic Technological University, Celtic Irish American Academy, and Galway County Council participated in a Galway City Council-led exchange with our sister cities of Chicago and Milwaukee in August 2024. The Mayor of the City of Galway, Cllr Peter Keane, led the delegation in engagements including meetings with Mayor of the City of Chicago, Brandon Johnson and Mayor of the City of Milwaukee, Mayor Cavalier Johnson.

We are inviting community groups and organisations to hold an event during the week which reflects on this theme and how your organisation or society can better support the needs of people with disabilities to be included in all aspects of the community. We will include all events in a programme which will promote and highlight the week's activities.

Galway City Council wishes to advise that Children's Millennium Playground will be closed to all users from the 30th of September 2024 to facilitate the refurbishment of the playground.
