Galway City Celebrates ‘Purple Flag Month’ This October

Galway City is celebrating ‘Purple Flag Month’ this October, acknowledging the people, partnerships and places that make the city’s evening and night-time economy vibrant, welcoming, inclusive, and safe. Galway City Centre and Salthill hold these prestigious international accreditations, which are awarded by the Association of Town and City Management to only 100 destinations worldwide, in recognition of excellence in managing the evening and night time economy (6pm to 5am).

Positive Ageing Week (25 September - 2 October) is an annual celebration of the vital and varied contributions older people make to their communities, and an opportunity to challenge ageism. This year's theme, 'Connecting Generations', invites us to build connections, challenge stereotypes and recognise the value, experience and contribution of older people.

Galway City to become First Local Authority to Eliminate Road Diesel in Larger Fleet

Galway City Council will become the first Local Authority in the country to eliminate road diesel in its larger fleet, by transitioning to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) as a renewable fuel source. HVO Eliminates up to 90% of net Carbon Dioxide emissions and reduces harmful pollutants such as Nitrogen Dioxide and particulate matter, which can cause asthma and impaired lung function and can make it difficult to breath for some of our citizens.
