NITIES Interreg Project
Galway City Council is proud to partner on NITIES, an interregional approach to managing the night-time economies across the EU.
The night-time economy has become a crucial component of the economic development in many European towns and cities. This term refers to economic activities occurring between 6pm and 6am in city and town centres, including cultural events, entertainment, hospitality, nightlife and supporting activities such as transportation, safety and logistics networks.
Recognizing the night-time economy's importance to the European Union’s overall economy, social cohesion and cultural life, the NITIES project aims to unite public authorities to maximise the benefits and minimise the negative impacts of night-time activities.
The main objective of the NITIES project is to improve policy instruments for sustainable night-time management in European cities.
The project's activities focus on bringing about changes in urban and regional policies in the following areas:
- Night-time economy development - integration of night-time activities into urban policies
- Safety and transport - improving logistics and safety during night-time hours
- Culture and entertainment - supporting a dynamic and sustainable cultural scene
- Urban space management - minimising negative impacts of night-time activities
The implementation of the project will contribute to the creation of coherent strategies for cities and regions, improving the quality of life of citizens and supporting the development of the night-time economy based on social, economic, cultural and environmental pillars.
