Sammy the Therapy Dog will feature in a new video by Galway City Council, raising awareness of the wonderful dogs seeking new homes in Galway City Dog Shelter.
In February 2025, Christine Domegan got a call from Tom Costello, Galway City Council Dog Warden, to say a pup had come in, with a lovely temperament.
Christine was looking for a therapy dog for her sister Fiona. Fiona has always had a labrador in her life.
Sammy the dog came into the shelter as a failed hunting dog – but has been a resounding success as a therapy dog for Fiona!
On Sammy the dog’s first visit to Fiona, he sat up on Fiona’s lap. Sammy is now a regular visitor to Clarinbridge Care Centre, meeting and greeting dog-loving staff and residents alike.
Galway City Dog Shelter rehomes 250-350 dogs every year.
If you would like to support people with Huntingtons to access services such as Therapy Dogs, Fiona and Christine Domegan suggest donating to the Huntingtons Disease Association of Ireland at www.Huntingtons.ie/Donate
