The Deputy Mayor of the City of Galway, Councillor Josie Forde welcomed the Celtic American Irish academy into the Council Chamber on Friday the 24 July.
The Celtic American Irish Academy is an international summer school whose mission is to provide an adventurous, fun, and unique insight into the Irish Heritage.
40 students from America and Canada just completed a two week of total immersion programme in culture, leadership, heritage, business, sustainability, S.T.E.A.M, and service learning. The ages range of 15-17 years.
The purpose of the programme is to cultivate and strengthen the bonds between the United States, Canada, Europe, and Galway, Ireland. They believe that the positive progression of the close relationship between the countries will be greatly enhanced by nurturing the youth in this way.
The Deputy Mayor, Cllr Josie Forde, addressed the students, presented certificates, and opened the room for questions. The students asked various questions about politics, law, other local authorities, and the Deputy Mayor’s journey to be a councillor.
