LCSP Reviews Community Safety Progress and Confirms New Supports

The Galway City Local Community Safety Partnership (LCSP) met on 8 April 2026, bringing together statutory agencies and community representatives to review ongoing community safety work and confirm upcoming initiatives.

Key Outcomes

  • Minutes Approved: Members confirmed the previous meeting’s record.
  • Road Safety: Road safety matters, including lighting and safer‑space proposals, will be referred to the interdepartmental team.
  • Media Training: Recent media skills training for members received strong positive feedback.
  • Declarations: No declarations of interest were recorded.

Stakeholder Contributions

  • HSE Safeguarding: HSE representative outlined safeguarding responsibilities and supports for vulnerable adults.
  • Cope Galway: highlighted current services and the upcoming Safe and Together Model training event on 6 May.
  • Coordinator Updates: Members received updates on the National and Local Community Safety Plans, subcommittee progress, and community engagement activities.

One member noted that the level of collaboration across agencies is strengthening our ability to respond to community needs.”

Context and Forward Planning

The National Community Safety Plan, expected in Q4 2026, will guide long‑term priorities, while the Local Community Safety Plan supported by a public survey launching in the coming weeks will shape targeted actions for Galway City.

Strengthened subcommittee structures, increased funding, and enhanced interagency coordination are expected to support improved service delivery and community engagement.
