Galway City Council invites Residents Associations, community groups and allotment schemes to apply for the Local Amenity Grant Scheme 2026. The objective of the scheme is to aid community gardens/allotment schemes and Residents Associations who wish to contribute towards the betterment of their local environment by undertaking improvement works in their local area with a focus on litter clean-ups and litter pickers, graffiti removal and community workshops. It encompasses anything that involves cleaning, painting, gardening and maintaining public spaces.
It is important to note that the deadline for the grants this year is at the earlier date of the 20 February 2026.
Galway City Council Mayor Cllr. Mike Cubbard said that “the Amenity Grant Scheme has proven a vital support for communities over the past number of years and stands out as an important funding stream that encourages pride and community participation across the city. It also provides a positive link between our neighbourhoods and city by improving our public spaces”.
In total, the funding for the Local Amenity Grants Scheme for 2026 is €25,000. Fergal Cushen, Environmental Awareness Officer with Galway City Council, commented “I would urge all Residents Association’s and community groups across the city to avail of this grant. The grant money has improved community areas across the city for years and will continue to do so”.

Completed applications should be submitted no later than the closing date of 4:00pm Friday 13 February 2026.
