Notice is hereby given, pursuant to Section 13(6) of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended), that the Members of Galway City Council having considered Proposed Variation No. 2 of the Galway City Development Plan 2023-2029 and the associated Chief Executive’s Report have resolved that the Proposed Variation be altered. The proposed modifications constitute material alterations of the Draft Variation of the Galway City Development Plan 2023-2029.
The purpose of proposed Variation No. 2 is to apply a zoning objective to lands unzoned following Ministerial Direction. Galway City Council (GCC) proposes to amend the zoning status of the lands previously unzoned as GCC considers it appropriate that all lands in the city are subject to a land use zoning objective. Zoning gives clarity and a level of certainty to landowners and third parties in considering the current use and possible future development of the subject lands.
A copy of the proposed Material Alterations to proposed Variation No. 2, together with:
· SEA (Strategic Environmental Assessment) Environmental Report and SEA Determination
· AA (Appropriate Assessment) screening report and AA Determination
are available to view and download on the website at consult.galwaycity.ie/browse.
Submissions can be made:
Submissions or observations regarding the Proposed Material Alteration to Variation No. 2 and the associated documents are hereby invited from the public and interested bodies. Written submissions or observations may be made between Friday 19 June 2026 and Thursday 16 July 2026 (inclusive) in one of the following ways:
· Using the online submission portal following registration at consult.galwaycity.ie/browse
· By post to Senior Planner, Planning Department, City Hall, College Road, Galway, H91X4K8.
Submissions and observations should be made in one medium only i.e. via the consultation portal or via hard copy by post. Only submissions or observations made in respect of the proposed material alterations received within the period specified will be taken into consideration by Galway City Council. Submissions or observations in relation to any other aspect of proposed Variation No. 2 cannot be considered at this stage in the process.
The closing date for receipt of written submissions or observations is 16 July 2026 at 4pm.
