Coffey Construction Ltd., on behalf of Galway City Council, is nearing completion of the Ballybane Road and Castlepark Road Active Travel Scheme. With full road resurfacing works now almost completed on Castlepark Road, the next phase involves full resurfacing of the carriageways on Ballybane Road. To ensure the safety of the public and workers during these works, temporary road closures will be implemented on Ballybane Road in coordination with Galway City Council. Details of these closures are outlined below.
We appreciate there will be some disruption and thank you for your patience as the project is completed safely.
When will the Closures be in operation?
Road Closures will be in place from 9.30am – 4.00pm, Monday to Friday on the following dates:
- Monday April 27 for approximately three weeks on the Ballybane Road from St. James Road to the Monivea Road junction, followed by potential short closures on Monivea Road East and West at the junction of Ballybane Road
- Works on Ballybane Road will not begin until Castlepark Road are complete.
Local Access
Local vehicle access will be maintained from one end of the road at all times, signage and marshals will be in place to inform locals of the diversion routes to reach their properties. Please be patient as marshals direct you to an alternative route. Pedestrian and wheeler access will be maintained at all times.
Bus Services
Between the hours of 9.30am – 4.00pm, bus services will be diverted away from the Ballybane Road and will follow the diversion shown below. Buses will be as normal at all other times. Signage will also be erected at each bus stop to alert passengers to the alterative bus stop which will be either on the St James Road or the Michael Collins Road
