Urban & Community Development Officers

The Urban & Community Development Officers (UCDO) act as a vital link between Galway City’s communities and the Local Authority. Their role is to support community groups in delivering local projects, securing funding, and improving long-term community wellbeing.

The UCDO team works hand-in-hand with community and voluntary groups to foster sustainable development through:

  • Project Development & Planning
  • Funding & Grant Assistance
  • Governance Training
  • Inclusive Engagement

All support provided aligns with the Local Economic and Community Plan (LECP) 2024–2029, which sets the strategic direction for Galway City's economic and community sector growth.

UCDOs collaborate with the elected members of Galway City Council and support a wide range of groups, including:

  • Older adults
  • Residents Associations
  • Ethnic minority groups
  • Young people
  • People with disabilities
  • LGBT+ communities
  • Other local communities

Details on group-specific responsibilities are outlined below.
