Galway City Council has partnered with other EU regions to collaborate in the Interreg funded NEBA project. This project aims to integrate New European Bauhaus (NEB) values into regional planning processes. The initiative focuses on enhancing the capacities of regions and cities to develop inclusive and sustainable territorial planning policies, thereby increasing resilience and adaptation to climate change.

Galway City Council is delighted to be shortlisted in three categories in the prestigious All-Ireland Housing Awards 2026. The shortlisted projects are Bóithrín na Saoirse – Traveller Group Housing Scheme in the Best housing development; Affordable Housing Communications in the Excellence in Communication Category; and Developer Breakfast Briefing, in the ‘Working in Partnership’ Category.
Galway City Council is delighted to announce that Bóithrín na Saoirse, the City’s new Traveller Specific Group Housing Scheme on Circular Road, has been shortlisted for two categories at the Irish Building and Design Awards 2026.
Galway City Council are seeking to increase the number of Affordable and Social
housing units through various delivery mechanisms, including the acquisition of turnkey
units on greenfield/brownfield and/or unfinished housing development sites which
are zoned residential.
The development of new strategies for accelerating the delivery of homes in Galway was explored by senior officials and stakeholders from across the housing sector at a forum held at the Galmont Hotel on Wednesday 12 November 2025.
