Mayor of Galway City, Cllr Mike Cubbard, was joined by Galway Chamber and business representatives in the city this week (Wednesday 4 February) to launch a new ‘Parking Made Easy for our Visitors’ information pack. This pack aims to provide businesses with information and assets they can share with customers or staff, should they need to park while visiting Galway City. The resource is available online (see below), with printed copies and wallet sized parking summaries available by contacting Galway City Council on 091 536 400 or CustomerService@GalwayCity.ie
Mayor of the City of Galway, Cllr Mike Cubbard, said, “Galway City welcomes over two million visitors to our city every year, from home and abroad. As is becoming more common in Ireland and internationally, Galway City offers motorists a number of ways to pay for parking – whether from the comfort of the driver seat by app, phone or website, or by cash or card in a local Payzone shop in the city. The Parking Made Easy for our Visitors resource gives businesses ‘cut and paste’ information to guide their customers through parking payment options in the city, and can be put on websites, or pages can be printed and shared with visitors, for example. I welcome the engagement of Galway Chamber and businesses in the city in the promotion of this resource - as the more support a customer has to find the information they need, the easier it will be for them to come to Galway City.”
Leonard Cleary, Chief Executive, Galway City Council, said, “Over 103,000 motorists have now used the new parking payment services, and a growing number of motorists are paying in Payzone shops in the city. The ‘Digital Plus’ approach is aligned with other Irish and European cities and supports our strategic direction.”
Mr Cleary continued, “While the new system provides convenient digital options – app, website and phone – it also recognises that not everyone is at the same point in their digital journey. To that end, Galway City Council recently launched literacy support packs with agencies including GRETB, Galway City libraries, and Age Action, and these new visitor information resources. A review of signage in car parks is on-going, with new signage to be installed to make it easier to understand and pay for parking. This change to digital plus options has taken some time for people to become familiar with. However, Galway City Council will continue a proactive communications campaign to support visitors to the city to pay for parking by the option that suits them best. Parking income remains steady, indicating that people are making the change successfully – and we will continue to support those who need assistance with this change.”
The Parking Made Easy for our Visitors resource contains:
- Parking in Galway City summary poster
