Galway City Council is introducing a new rent scheme for social housing tenancies, to support enhanced service delivery, maintenance, retrofits and tenancy support.
Women in Galway City are invited to participate in free self-protection and defence classes, starting in September 2025. Presented by Black Dragon Kickboxing Certified Personal Trainer and Instructor, Pete Foley, participants will learn practical techniques to boost confidence, situational awareness, and self-protection skills.

Galway City welcomed over 400 delegates and 150 exhibitors to the 66th Annual Irish Chief Fire Officers Association (ICFOA) Conference in the Salthill Hotel last week (7-8 May 2025).
Conference delegates were welcomed by Cllr. Peter Keane, Mayor of the City of Galway, and Cllr. Martina Kinane, Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council, followed by addresses from Leonard Cleary, Chief Executive of Galway City Council and Uinsinn Finn, Deputy Chief Executive of Galway County Council.

Breathe new life into your Vacant or Derelict home with grant schemes available through Galway City Council
Galway City Council has welcomed a grant of €250K for two Galway City projects, as part of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage ‘Community Monuments Fund’ announced earlier this month. Funds to the value of €130,000 will be invested in Menlough Castle, with €120,000 to be invested in St Nicholas Collegiate Church. The funding will be used for essential repairs and capital works for the conservation and repairs at both structures.
