Galway City Council is introducing a new rent scheme for social housing tenancies, to support enhanced service delivery, maintenance, retrofits and tenancy support.
Women in Galway City are invited to participate in free self-protection and defence classes, starting in September 2025. Presented by Black Dragon Kickboxing Certified Personal Trainer and Instructor, Pete Foley, participants will learn practical techniques to boost confidence, situational awareness, and self-protection skills.
From Monday 17 February to Friday 21 February, Shantalla will play host to the Mount Lucas Retrofitting Rig - a fully equipped mobile Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) unit to deliver training on energy upgrades and retrofitting in communities across Ireland. The mobile rig will be based in T O'Higgins & Company Limited Homevalue, Shantalla, with free, open tours available throughout the week for anyone interested in retrofitting their home.

Galway City Council is proud to announce that Galway has been selected as the host city for the 2027 World Association of Marching Show Bands (WAMSB) World Championships, a global event that will bring thousands of musicians and performers to the city from 13th–15th August 2027. It is anticipated that this will generate 25,000 bed-nights in the city during the festival.
A recent survey by Galway City Council has revealed a strong appetite for affordable housing in the city. Affordable homes are properties at a reduced rate to the open market value. These schemes are open to first time buyers, fresh start buyers and other eligible buyers who cannot afford to purchase a home on its open market value.
