The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) Commission for Economic Policy (ECON) met in Galway, Ireland, on 6 and 7 October to discuss Europe’s regions' central role in strengthening competitiveness and resilience in a changing global economy, stressing the importance of supporting local businesses, investment and innovation while addressing trade volatility and shifting global supply chains.

Galway City Council Launches New Personal and Community Resilience Booklet

Galway City Council is pleased to launch its new Personal and Community Resilience Booklet, a practical resource designed to help individuals, families and communities prepare for and respond to emergency situations. The booklet offers guidance and support for dealing with a range of emergencies and is aimed at helping people make sensible preparations in advance so they can remain as self-sufficient as possible during an emergency or evacuation.

Notice of Upcoming Road Closure – Ballybane Road

23 April 2026

Road Closures will be in place from 9.30am – 4.00pm, Monday to Friday from Monday April 27 for approximately three weeks. The closures will be in place on the Ballybane Road from St. James Road to the Monivea Road junction, followed by potential short closures on Monivea Road East and West at the junction of Ballybane Road.

Public Consultation Opens on Economic Development Strategy for Galway City and County

Galway City Council and Galway County Council, supported by Grant Thornton, have launched a public consultation to inform the development of a joint Economic Development Strategy for Galway City and County. This strategy will help shape the growth of Galway City and County over the next decade and beyond and inform decisions on key economic areas including job creation, enterprise and cluster development.

Galway City’s Architectural Heritage Celebrated with Wonder Wander Trails

Galway City Council, in partnership with the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage (NIAH) at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, has this week launched two ‘Wonder Wander’ trails – celebrating the rich history and heritage to be found in Eyre Square and the City Core.
