‘Platinum Picture Show’ Screenings for ‘Bealtaine Festival’ 2026

During the month of May 2026, Galway City Council Age Friendly Programme is partnering with Eye Cinema and Galway ‘Platinum Picture Show’ to enable a succession of screenings to celebrate the ‘Bealtaine Festival’ – with the first 40 tickets free for each screening!

Galway City Picks up Gold Medal at the Supervalu TidyTowns National Competition 2025

Galway City received a Gold Medal at the Supervalu TidyTowns National Competition 2025 on Friday 24 October at Croke Park in Dublin – demonstrating a marked improvement on previous year’s scores and recognising the tireless work of Galway City’s TidyTowns Committee, volunteers, city centre businesses, and Galway City Council Litter Management crews, Biodiversity Officer and Environment staff.

This past weekend, Open House Chicago, the annual architecture festival organised by the Chicago Architecture Center, welcomed visitors into over 200 of the city’s most iconic and hidden architectural treasures. For the first time, the event extended its reach internationally by spotlighting Galway City — a long-standing sister city of Chicago.

Due to street rehabilitation works to Churchyard Street from Monday the 6th of October to Friday 28th November 2025 part of the St. Nicholas Casual Traders Market will be temporarily moved during this period to St. Patrick’s School Car Park.
We encourage members of the public who frequent the market on the weekends to ensure you visit here also to see a vibrant and diverse set of traders set up a mini market during the period.
Market traders remain on Lombard Street and a part of Churchyard Street so be sure to see what they have on offer also.
