There are now several easy ways to pay for parking in Galway City.

Public Participation: Identification of Bathing Waters

Local authorities must identify official bathing areas in their area every year so that they can be monitored for safety, water quality and their level of use. To help with this process, Galway City Council are asking people who swim at beaches, lakes and rivers to tell them if they think they should maintain existing designated bathing waters designations or give a new official bathing area designation to areas that are commonly used for swimming, but not identified at the moment.

All Galway City Council woodlands will close tomorrow (Friday 3 October), through to Saturday, pending inspections by our staff.

Spot flooding may occur throughout the city – please be mindful of other road users in areas with spot flooding, in particular pedestrians and cyclists.

Affordable Housing

Notice of consideration of a Scheme for the Abatement of Rates in respect of Vacant Properties

2 October 2025

Section 9 of the Local Government Rates and other Matters Act 2019, makes specific provision that elected members of a local authority may make a scheme providing for the abatement of rates in respect of vacant properties and that such a scheme shall be approved at the local authority budget meeting, concerning the local financial year to which the scheme shall apply.

Status Orange Wind Warning Issued for Galway (Storm Amy)

2 October 2025

A Status Orange Wind warning has been issued by Met Eireann to include Galway and is valid from 14:00 Friday 03/10/2025 to 22:00 Friday 03/10/2025. A Status Yellow Wind warning for Ireland has also been issued and is valid from 12:00 Friday 03/10/2025 to 00:00 Saturday 04/10/2025.
