Galway City Council is introducing a new rent scheme for social housing tenancies, to support enhanced service delivery, maintenance, retrofits and tenancy support.
Women in Galway City are invited to participate in free self-protection and defence classes, starting in September 2025. Presented by Black Dragon Kickboxing Certified Personal Trainer and Instructor, Pete Foley, participants will learn practical techniques to boost confidence, situational awareness, and self-protection skills.
Wolves have returned to Ballybane, with the installation of a spectacular new mural as part of a community project at SruthĂĄn Mhuirlinne in Ballybane. The project was launched at an event on 13 November 2024. The amazing mural features two new works of poetry - one by the mural artist herself, Irene Naughton; the other an Irish poem by award winning poet Ailbhe NĂ Ghearbhuigh, with a theme of the last wolf of Merlin Woods. This project was funded by the Waste Enforcement Regional Lead Authorities (WERLA) Anti-Dumping Initiative.
Galway City is participating in the âSafe and Soundâ campaign to promote positive social behaviour and respect while enjoying the night time economy. The campaign is a call to action for visitors and residents to enjoy all Galway City has to offer after 6pm from theatre, sports, pubs, cafes, cinema and so on â while being considerate of their surroundings and each other.
Galway City Council has achieved five prestigious Green Flag Awards, at the announcement on 8 November by An Taisce Environmental Education Unit. The Green Flag Awards acknowledge Irelandâs best public parks and gardens, with Quincentennial Park in Salthill achieving the award for the fifth time, Childrenâs Millennium Park retaining the honour for a sixth year in a row and OâSullivan Park in Mervue achieving the award for the third time. Both Kennedy Park (Eyre Square) and Terryland Forest Park joined the honour roll this year, with the award of the Green Flag for the first time.
A Book of Condolences in memory of Billy Lawless, Freeman of Galway City, has opened in City Hall, Galway City Council, today (Monday 11 November 2024). His Worship, the Mayor of the City of Galway, Cllr Peter Keane opened the book, which will be available to the public for the entry of messages of sympathy.
