Galway City Council is delighted to announce the return of the Spaces for Biodiversity Competition for 2026. The initiative celebrates and promotes biodiversity-friendly private gardens, public areas, schools, and community spaces across the city.
The permitted extension of the Port of Galway will support the continued operation and expansion of core port activities, strengthening its role as a key economic asset for the city and region.
Galway City Council would like to remind the public that the Status Orange: Wind warning is still in effect until 4:00pm today. Members of the public are advised to limit travel to essential travel only, and to shelter in place as much as possible in areas where an orange level warning is in place, as there is ongoing risk of trees falling and flying debris and fallen electric cables.
Traffic lights remain out in a number of locations in the city (see below).
Please proceed with caution going through junctions. It may take some time to resolve connectivity issues and repairs to restore lights.
