Galway City Dog Shelter
The Galway City Dog Shelter was first constructed in 1988. This building consists of five indoor kennels, a washroom, a vet room and storerooms. An extension was then built in 2015 where an office, canteen, reception, hallway and toilet were added.
Built to house up to 20 dogs at any one time, the building fabric, thermal properties and heating methods meant a wide variety of measures were considered to improve energy efficiency and to reduce the building’s carbon emissions. Pre-works, the annual usage of the building was 15,522 kWh. The works allows an 82% reduction in the annual energy usage of the building.
The upgrades to this building consisted of:
Description of works | Energy saved (kWh) | tCo2e saved towards 2030 target | Cost saving / Year |
