Area Committee Meetings

Galway City Council is divided into three Local Administrative Areas, each represented by a Local Area Committee. These committees provide a forum for elected members and Council officials to focus on matters affecting their local communities and neighbourhoods.

Meetings are held every two months.

The committees are established under the provisions of the Local Government Act 2001, which enables local authorities to establish Area Committees for specific parts of their administrative area.

Strategic Policy Committees

Strategic Policy Committees (SPCs) bring together elected members (Councillors), and people actively working with social partners and other sectoral interests to develop and review policies related to Council services. Final policy decisions, however, rest with the full Council acting as a body. Galway City Council has six Strategic Policy Committees (SPCs)

Westside Community Centre

The Westside Community Centre consists of a Main Hall, a Practice Hall and small Multi-Purpose Room. The main hall can be used for a large variety of activities, including Basketball, Indoor Soccer, Indoor Bowls, Kick Boxing, Karate, Aerobics, Mother and Toddler Groups

Knocknacarra Community Centre

This centre comprises of a Main Hall (32m x 19m), Multi-Purpose Room (15m x 10m) and 3 meeting rooms - Green Room, Viewing Dock, Coffee Dock. Please provide numbers in booking. • A 4G all-weather pitch also adjoins this centre.
