Galway City Council extends an open invite to all for the legendary Galway City St Patrick’s Day Parade on Monday 17 March.

Galway City Council is currently inviting applications for the Horse Drawn Hackney Carriage Licence for 2025 under Galway City Council‘s Non-Motorised Passenger Transporter Bye-Laws 2015. The licence for 2025 will expire on 31st December, 2025.

Galway City Council hosted a fully bilingual meeting (Gaeilge/ English) on Monday 10 March 2024 - the first such meeting in the Council’s history. The meeting acknowledges Galway’s unique position as a bilingual and Gaeltacht city, and as a Gaeltacht Service Town.

Built in the 1980s and the subject of an extension in the early 2000s, the existing City Hall headquarters facility has insufficient capacity to deliver effective service delivery and to cater for existing or future staffing levels in Galway City Council. The building contains limited facilities for public and civic events and the hosting of group meetings, a lack of private meeting space for dealing with customers, and an unsuitable Council Chamber with inadequate AV capabilities.

The Mayor of the City of Galway, Councillor Peter Keane has chosen national treasure and traditional Irish music superstar Sharon Shannon as the Grand Marshal for the 2025 Galway St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

A three-day festival of free events will take place in Galway City from 15th–17th March to celebrate this year’s St. Patrick’s Day. With St. Patrick’s Day falling on a Monday (17th March), the festivities promise to bring even more excitement to the city over the extended weekend.

Senior officials and Elected Members from Galway City and County Councils and Galway Chamber of Commerce met at The Galmont Hotel this morning (Wednesday 5 March) to discuss opportunities for leveraging government support for key strategic priorities for Galway and the wider North-Western Region.
