Retrofit Projects

As part of our Local Authority Climate Action Plan (LACAP), Galway City Council continues to progress our 2030 energy efficiency and carbon reduction targets, as part of our transition to a sustainable energy future.

Leisureland

Leisureland had an energy consumption in 2023 of 4,637,778 kWh. This allowed it to be earmarked for substantial works to improve its energy performance, and ‘clean’ & ‘green’ it’s energy usage. Through the building’s electrical use and heating via Natural Gas, it cost approximately €384,381 to operate the building in the same year. As a result, Works focusing on addressing the high consumption areas of the buildings were targeted through the following.

  • Air Handling Units installation

  • Solar PV Installation

  • Mid-Roof Insulation

  • Pool cover installation

  • Variable speed drives

These works allowed the following savings to be earned

Works kWh Saving/ yr € Saving / yr
Installation of 5 Air Handling Units in exhibiton space, pool hall & changing rooms 631,399  € 66,408
